Administrators at the middle school advised School Resource Officers at the beginning of the day on Thursday, March 2, that a fight involving multiple students had just taken place, with at least one continuing to cause trouble in the aftermath of the incident.

Officials said that the students were separated, however, one remained defiant, behaving disorderly and refusing to comply with administrators’ demands, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

When officers responded to the school and attempted to diffuse the situation, the student continued to struggle and made numerous attempts to get away in order to continue fighting with classmates.

According to a Charles County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, the teen continued to refuse to comply, and he proceeded to actively resist arrest, forcing the school to be placed in a hold status.

One officer suffered minor injuries as a result of the student resisting.

The 14-year-old was charged on a Juvenile Offense Report for:

  • Affray;
  • Disturbing school operations;
  • Disorderly conduct;
  • Resisting arrest;
  • Second-degree assault.

He was released to a parent as per Maryland law.

In addition to the criminal charges, the student also faces disciplinary actions from the Charles County Public Schools system.
